In the spirit of posting things in reverse order, I just had to write about how proud I am of Ava. She's been working on not sucking her thumb, something she used to spend about a third of her day doing. She was begging me to take her to Build-A-Bear, so I told her we could create a chart and she could work on not sucking her thumb. She tried hard to talk me into doing something easier (i.e. making her bed or being nice to her sister), but I held firm.
I have to admit, the entire time we were making the chart, I really didn't think she could do it. I was a serious thumb sucker, and didn't stop until I was almost 10. I don't want to say she's free from the addiction (are we ever?) but she's well past earning her trip to Build-A-Bear. The trick for us was bandaids on the thumbs at night and gum during the day, but really it took dedication on her part.
You'll notice Lilly in the background of the picture with her bear. She's been working simultaneously on not wetting the bed at night. I wanted to cry when they rang up those two overly priced stuffed animals, but I guess it's worth every dime if it means not changing pee sheets every few nights and a huge behavioral change in Ava.

That's great! Yeah! So excited for them.
Kaitlin was looking at your blog with me the other day and was so excited to see Ava and Lily. So excited to see you again in May.

I'm so proud of Ava. I see that she is growing and maturing and I'm so proud to be her Grammy. She is a precious little girl with wonderful parents.
yea! go ava!!!! cate's right behind you...she gets her "big" prize in two days. and jackson and thomas have also joined the fun. go thumb suckers! :)
I'm happy for both your sweet girls. good job, ladies!!!!!!!!!!
From one thumb sucker to another... NICE WORK! And a mighty fine reward I might add!
I kicked the habit in order to keep my baby blanket (in Kindergarten). Then I took up chewing on it's corner's instead :).
Still have that blanket...no longer chewed, but loved all the same. (I guess we never really do break the habit, just keeps changing forms).
YEAH AVA AND LILY!!! Way to go to Mom as well-that takes serious patience.
Loved the Disney World pictures-what a "magical" trip and I am so glad you had such a great time. Hope to talk to you again soon. :)
I guess I haven't read your posts for a little while. Your girls are beautiful and getting so big. Good idea with the bandaids! Smart.
Hoorah for Ava and Lilly! I have to say, this post made me a little nervous about dealing with such dilemas as bedwetting and thumbsucking (and most relevant--pottytraining). I don't think I'll be man enough for the job. The real congratulations go to you here Mindy! :)
Mindy, that's great! I have two thumb suckers too. That is a great idea and I will have to try that. I haven't taken them to Build a Bear, yet and I am sure that will be a great reward. Thanks for the idea :)
