Weekend Fun

I had the best weekend with my family!!! The weather was glorious and we lived it up. We kicked off the weekend with an evening walk to dinner followed up by a trip to the movies to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It was pretty good as far as kid's movies go. Tyler claims it's a documentary of his childhood. I think I need to buy the book to read to the girls, but they might appreciate it if better if they are a year or two older.

On Saturday morning we dragged ourselves out of bed around lunchtime. After sleeping like a champ Naomi has decided to scream all night and we are wiped out. First we hiked the dish as a family. We all made it to the tippy top of the hill, and then I turned around with the girls and Ty jogged the rest. The girls and I took our time chasing butterflies, picking wild-flowers, and squirrel watching on the way down, so we met up with Ty at the car at the same time.

We spent the second part of the afternoon picnicking by the bay. We rode bikes, chased geese, and flew our kite until the sun went down. The girls can really get around on their two-wheelers and the bike paths are good for learning bike safety without cars zooming past. My heart just about melted when I caught Lilly singing "Let's go fly a kite" while she was flying her kite for the first time. All day long she kept saying how much fun she was having. We really did have tons of fun.

And did I mention that Naomi rolled over for the first time that morning? She's getting so big! Now why can't she sleep like a big girl?

Today we went to church and then made lemon custard squares with our remaining lemons. Lilly and I picked all of the lemons off our tree (minus the ones I couldn't reach on top) earlier this week and I juiced about 4 gallons worth of lemons. Bring on the summer lemonade! We ended the day with family dinner at my parents' house and an early bedtime for some tired girls.

I really love my family. They bring so much joy to my life and I couldn't think of a better way to spend a few sunny days.

BounceU

After Ava's birthday party last year I swore I'd fork over the dough for a party where they would take care of everything. Seeing as Ava wanted to invite her entire kindergarten class this year (plus sister, neighbors, cousins, etc.) it was absolutely necessary. We went to BounceU, which is basically a warehouse full of blow up toys. It was a blast (even for the grown-ups) and I didn't even have to slice the cake, serve screaming children, or clean up. I call that success.

SIX!!!

Ava crawled in bed with us yesterday morning, right around the same time she was born six years earlier. I looked at her legs stretching down the bed and couldn't believe how big she's grown. Has it been six years? Really? It seems like yesterday they handed me this tiny perfect thing wrapped up like a burrito - a breakfast burrito, because she was born just after 8 in the morning, and she was so sweet we could just eat her up.

Now she's going to school, losing teeth, blowing bubble-gum bubbles, swinging upside down on the monkey bars, skiing, ice skating, playing soccer, creating beautiful art, reading, and just growing up. I'm so proud of her and I love her to no end. Happy birthday Ava!!!

Technology 101

Tyler: Don't drop that (the iTouch).
Lilly: What happens if you drop it?
Ava: The glass on the screen will break.
Lilly: Oh yeah! The glass breaks and all the games and movies fall out.
