Allergist Update

We met with the allergist this morning. Naomi's definitely allergic to milk and showed borderline reactions to eggs, carrots, and almonds. The nurses administrating the test were doing training and messed up the first test, and she didn't have enough space on her back for a repeat, so we won't know about those other things until we get back for another test. In the meantime she needs to avoid milk (obviously), eggs, nuts, fish, and shellfish. That means I need to avoid those things as well in my diet. We also need to carry an epipen with us at all times in case of accidental exposure. Did you know that milk is in almost everything?! It's going to change lots of things when it comes to the way we eat until she (hopefully) outgrows the allergy. 80% of kids with milk allergy outgrow it by age 16. I'm hoping she's in the 20% that outgrow it by age 4, not the 20% that don't outgrow it at all. In the meantime, I'm mourning her loss of all things dairy: milk, yogurt, cheese, ice cream, chocolate! Oh my.

I am so sorry! We heard about the test...ridiculous! I hope it helps to know that my mom and 3 of my siblings were allergic to milk and outgrew it, most before jr. high.
We can't wait to see you all-it's going to be the greatest!

I'm so sad for Naomi but it sure makes me think about Tyler when he was little. I think he had exactly the same problem but I just wasnt on top of things to realize it. He used to throw-up so much when he was little and have those same kind of reactions. I hope life isn't going to be too difficult but I bet she will grow out of it as Tyler did.
